Naneghat, also referred to as Nanaghat or Nana Ghat is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range between the Konkan coast and the ancient town of Junnar in the Deccan plateau.

During the reign of the Satavahana, the pass was used as a trade route between Kalyan and Junnar. The name Nane means "coin" and ghat means "pass". The place was used as a booth to collect toll from traders crossing the hills, from which it is believed that it has got the identity as NaneGhat.
The pass is about 120 kilometres north of Pune and about 165 kilometres east of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Naneghat pass stretches over the Western Ghats, through an ancient stone laid hiking trail to the Naneghat plateau. The pass was the fastest route that connected the Indian west coast seaports of Sopara, Kalyan and Thane with economic centres and human settlements in Nasik, Paithan and other places according to the Archaeological Survey of India.
The prominent weather in the region is rainfall, the Konkan belt experiences High Rainfall (ranges around 2500 mm to 4500 mm), and the climate remains Humid and warm. The temperature reaches up to 30 degrees Celsius during this season. Summers are hot and humid, and the temperature touches 40 degrees Celsius.Winters have a comparatively milder climate (around 28 degrees Celsius), and the weather remains Cool and Dry.

The trek difficulty at Naneghat is moderate. Individuals may find it difficult to finish the trek. The time taken to complete the trek is roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. The distance covered is around 4.8 KM. If one starts the trek late in the evening it will be a perfect experience of climbing the hill in the moonlight and obviously with torch lights. The area is surrounded by various forts, ancient temples and historical sites, one can visit those places too.

Bhimashankar Temple: It is an ancient shrine situated in the Sahyadris. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga, located
125 KM away from Pune. Recently it has been declared as a wildlife sanctuary, famous for Malabar Giant Squirrel known as Shekaru locally which happens to be the state animal of Maharashtra.
Shivneri Fort: Birthplace of the ChhatrapatiShivajiMaharaj, located at a distance of 30.8 KM. At the centre of the fort is a water pond which is called ‘BadamiTalav’. To the south of it are the statues Jijabai and a young ShivajiMaharaji. In the fort, there are two water springs, called Ganges and Yamuna, which have water throughout the year

Visiting Rule and Time, Best month to visit :
The best time to visit and trekking is during the rainy season i.e. between July to September. During this time of the year, one can witness the beautiful scenery of this wonderful place. October to March is overall good to visit but not as suitable for the rainy season.
