Malshej Ghat is a popular hill station in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. It has numerous lakes, waterfalls, mountains, and flourishing flora and fauna. It is one of the popular spots amongst hikers, trekkers and nature lovers.

History
Malshej Ghat has no specific history. This place has been famous for its scenic views, variety of birds, and waterfalls for many years.
Geography
Malshej Ghat, with an average height of 700 metres is situated in the Thane district near the border of Pune and Thane districts. It is at a distance of 121 KM north of Pune and 129 KM from Mumbai towards the northeast.
Weather/Climate
The prominent weather in the region is rainfall, the and the climate remains cold and dry apart from monsoon. The temperature reaches up to 30 degrees Celsius during this season.
Summers are hot and dry, and the temperature touches 40 degrees Celsius.
Winters have a comparatively milder climate (around 15 degrees Celsius), and the weather remains Cool and Dry.

Malshej Ghat offers many lakes, waterfalls and appealing mountains to the visitors. It is a perfect destination for adventure activities such as trekking, bird watching, waterfall rappelling, nature trails and camping.

- Bird Watching at Pimpalgaon Joga Dam (19 KM) – The 5-kilometre long Pimpalgaon Joga Dam has been built over the enthralling Pushpawati River has attracted a lot of tourers near Malshej Ghat. The dam is also serving as second home to the migratory birds like pink flamingos, Alpine Swift,etc.
- Harishchandragad Fort– Harishchandragad Fort, a 6thcentury monument located at an altitude of 1,424 metres above mean sea level. A lot of trekking enthusiasts and pilgrims pay a visit to this place.
- Ajoba Hill Fort (43 KM)– The Ajoba Hill Fort is a popular among adventure seekers. It is a trekker’s paradise as the trail passes through the verdant landscape, and the weather is cool and calm. Activities such as rock climbing are also facilitated here.

You can explore the local Maharashtrian cuisine at the roadside dhabas. They normally serve the famous Misal Pav, Kandepohe, Bhaji etc. Tourists can buy hot Maggie or sweet corn from local thelas on top of the ghat and can eat in the presence of beautiful nature.

Visiting Rule and Time, Best month to visit
Malshej Ghat is a one-day return picnic spot from Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik. Tourists can visit Malshej ghat during the rainy season. In monsoon, Malshej Ghat is covered with lush green surroundings and many waterfalls attract tourists in this season. The best time to visit Malshej Ghat is from the mid monsoon, i.e. August, September, October. Winter is also the best time to visit Malshej for trekking.
