Deeksha Bhoomi is also known as Dhamma Chakra Stupa which is a holy monument located at Nagpur. 23 years was taken to complete the structure & on 18th December 2001 it was dedicated to the public by president Dr. K R Narayanan.

History

Dr Ambedkar was born in a Hindu family. He had declared in 1935 that before his death he wanted to abandon the caste system. He had chosen Buddhism. After his declaration, he studied the doctrines of many religious traditions in the world. 
In 1956 Buddhism was 2550 years old so it was a great movement to celebrate it. 14th October was the traditional date of conversion to Buddhism of emperor Ashoka, the great Indian Monarch and patron of Buddhism. The day is celebrated as Ashoka Vijaya Dashmi. Thus on 14th October 1956, Dr Ambedkar and his wife took the oath of Three Jewels and Five precepts from the Burmese monk Mahasthavir Chandram from Kushinagar. Dr Ambedkar then took the oath of Three Jewels, five precepts  and 22 vows to his thousand of followers
Dr Ambedkar died on 6th December, one and half months after the ceremony. However, it has continued till now. The committee had decided to build a stupa at the mass conversion of people of Buddhism, to commemorate the event. Arya Bhadant Surai Sasai is the president of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Deekshabhoomi Memorial committee, Nagpur. 
This event is considered a landmark in the Social reform movement which Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar had initiated.

Deeksha Bhoomi is some 5 km South-West of Nagpur city.

The region is mostly dry throughout the year, and Summers are extreme. The temperatures in summers are around  30-40 degrees Celsius.
Winters here came to be as low as 10 degrees Celsius.
The average annual rainfall in this region is around 1064.1 mm.

Deeksha Bhoomi is known for its architecture and a detailed tour gives insight into Buddhism, history and social aspects. One can spend three hours exploring the complete monument.

December to January are the best months to visit the place.
