Igatpuri

Igatpuri is in the western ghats of India in the Nashik district of  Maharashtra. Igatpuri is a town and a hill station known for Vipassana International Academy, where the antiquated technique of meditation called Vipassana is taught. This place is perhaps the best to visit in Maharashtra during the rains.

History

Igatpuri is encircled by the highest peaks in Sahyadri, the  Western Ghats, the vast majority of them are the forts  constructed in Satavahana tradition. It is a paradise for Trekkers and hikers to mount these hillocks. Igatpuri (once known as Egutpoora) S.N.Goenka set up the Vipassana 
International Academy, a centre for meditation in Igatpuri in 1976.

Geography

This place lies in the Western Ghats. The hill station is situated on the occupied Mumbai-Agra NH-3 highway just 45 KM from Nashik and 130 KM from Mumbai. Igatpuri is around  1968.5 ft above ocean level. It is 20 KM from Kasara.

The average annual temperature in Nashik is 24.1 degrees Celsius.
Winters are extreme in this region, and the temperature goes  as low as 12 degrees Celsius.
The sun is very harsh during summers. Nashik gets more rain during summer than winters. The temperature during summer  goes above 30 degrees Celsius.
