History

A Portuguese company constructed the Mount Mary Church during the 16th century CE. The purpose of this church was to have an oratory devoted to the visit of the virgin Mary. The original statue of mother God in the oratory was made of wood in Portugal and shipped by the Jesuit Priests.
During the 17th century, Arab pirates attacked Bandra. While they were looking for valuables and treasures, they started stripping the retreat. They broke off the right arm of Mary's statue to check if it's made of gold.  When they settled on the idea and arranged to implement it, a large group of honeybees entered the community and attacked them. They flowed sharply from severe things. At this point, they realized it was the result of their wrong actions in the church. The church was rebuilt in 1760, when this broken image was replaced with a statue of Our Lady of Navigators in St. Andrew's church nearby. The Koli Fishermen call the statue Mot Mauli, which means the Pearl Mother, or the Mother of the Mount (Mot being a corruption of the word "mount" and Mauli, for Mother). This church has followers and visitors from other religions apart from Christians.
