Pench, a beautiful national park in central India, is on the border of Maharashtra in South Madhya Pradesh. The Pench Tiger Reserve is spread across Seoni and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh and Nagpur district of Maharashtra.

History

The Pench Tiger Project gets its name from the Pench River that flows through the park. It was declared a sanctuary in 1965, was upgraded to a national park in 1975 and was registered as a tiger reserve in 1992. In 2011, the park received the "Best Management Award." The park can be entered through the gates of Sillari, Kolitmara, Chorbaoli, Khubada (Saleghat), Khurasapar and Surewani.
Plants
The forest covering the park includes teak along with other species like Saja, Bijayasal, Landia, Haldu, Dhaura, Salai, Amla, Amalta. The grounds are covered with a labyrinth of grass, trees, shrubs and plants and bamboo. Scattered white kulu trees, also known as 'ghost trees', stand out in various shades of green. Mahua is another important tree for the wildlife and tribal people of the area. Mammals and birds are fed on the flowers of Mahua, and the tribes cut them down for food and also for making beer.
The park has about 40 Bengal tigers, 39 species of mammals, 13 species of reptiles and 3 species of amphibians.
Commonly seen wildlife are chital, sambar, nilgai, wild boar and jard. The park is home to Indian leopards, lazy bears, Indian wolves, wild dogs, bears, monkeys, jungle cats, foxes, striped hyenas, gaur, four horned antelopes and barking deer.

This bird is also rich in bird life. Wildlife officials estimate there are more than 210 species in the park, including many migratory species. Some of them are Peacock, Junglefall, Crow Mole, Crimson-breasted Barbet, Red-vented Bulbul, Racket-tailed Drongo, Indian Roller, Magpie Robin, Low Whistle Teal, Pintail, Shoveller, Egret and Hearns, Minivet, Oriole, Wagtail, , Myna, waterfowl and the common kingfisher.

Geography

On the Maharashtra side, the original habitat area of ​​the Pench Tiger Reserve is 257.3 sq km and a total area of ​​741.2 sq km is covered with a buffer / perimeter area of ​​483.96 sq km of Mansinghdev Sanctuary. The main areas include Indira Priyadarshini Pench National Park and Mowgli Pench Wildlife Sanctuary. (118.30 sq. Km.) This reserve is known as the 'Mowgli's Land' because it is the original structure of Rudyard Kipling's most admired work, the Jungle Book.

The national park is home to many animals and plants, including dry deciduous forests and tigers, a variety of deer and birds.
Climate: Tropical. Warm temperatures in summer and pleasant temperatures in winter range from a minimum of 0 से C in winter to 45 C in summer.

Things to do

Open jeep safaris are allowed twice a day with a fixed quota for each schedule through each gate. Elephant safaris are held one at a time, but are closed these days.

Totla Doh Dam is a gravity dam on the Pench River near Ramtek in Nagpur district. Mansar Buddhist Stupa Site (2.3.3 km): The Mansar Buddhist Stupa site is an ancient relic of 10,000 year old Buddhist stupa found on a cliff near Ramtek.

Visiting rules and times, the best month to visit

The best time to visit the park is between November and May. The park is open to visitors from 6.00 am to 11:00 am and from 3.00 am to 6.00 pm. The park is closed during the rainy season from 1 July to 1 October. Only morning rounds are allowed on January 26 and May 1. There are no online booking facilities for this site. A total of eight people, including six tourists and two others, guides and drivers are allowed in the jeep. Access from different routes is not allowed.
