About Pimpalgaon Joga Dam

Pimpalgaon Joga Dam is situated on the Pushpavati river. It is one of the major tourist attractions near Junnar. The dam provides water to grape harvesting areas including Parner, Junnar, Otur, Narayangaon and Aale Phata.

History

The dam is situated on the Pushpavati river, one of the tributaries of the Kukadi river. It is located in the Ghod basin and is part of the Kukadi project, which constructed five dams in the region. Other dams in this project are Yedgaon Dam, Manikdoh Dam, Dimbhe Dam and Wadaj Dam. As of 2010, the annual average rainfall in the catchment area of this dam was 900 mm. 

Geography

The elevation of the dam over its lowest foundation is 28.6 m (94 ft) and it is 1,560 m (5,120 ft) long. The total storage capacity is 56,504.25 cu. mi. The dam is located in the Ghod basin and is part of the Kukadi project. The dam islocated to the south of Nashik and north of Pune.

The region has a hot-semi arid climate year-round with an average temperature ranging from 19-33 degrees Celsius.
April and May are the hottest months when the temperature reaches up to 42 degrees Celsius.
Winters are extreme, and the temperature can go as low as 10 degrees Celsius at night, but the average daytime temperature is around 26 degrees Celsius.
The annual rainfall in the region is around 763 mm.

Pimpalgaon Joga Dam is in Malshej Ghat in Maharashtra. It is about a 5 KM long dam. The dam has the very scenic surroundings which give it a panoramic view. A lot of bird species such as Alpine Swift, the Whistling Thrush, the Quail and migratory birds like the Flamingos can be spotted at this location.

    Malshej Ghat offers many lakes, waterfalls and appealing mountains to the visitors. It is a perfect destination for adventure activities such as trekking, bird watching, waterfall rappelling, nature trails and camping.
  • Malshej Lake camping: (13 KM) (30 min)
    Away from the polluted and loud citiesone can find a gorgeous and tranquil destination in the company of lush greenery and picturesque mountains. This place is easily accessible from Mumbai, Pune and Nashik. It is a best place to inhale purified air along with enthralling scenery.
  • Nageshwar temple: (8.5 KM) (19 min)
    Nageshwar Temple is a 700-year-old temple complex listed under the state Archaeological Survey of India. Since it is the ancient temple, it was highly deteriorated. The whole establishment has been restored to their original state in recent times. It is believed to be one of the oldest temples of Pune, Maharashtra.
  • Junnar grape festival: (25 KM) (35 min)
    Junnar Grape Festival organised by MTDC Resort Malshej Ghat & Farmers of Junnar to promote grape agro tourism and winery business. The Junnar taluka is famous for its tourist places, tourists are attracted to several natural ghats such as Naneghat, Aneghat and Daryaghat.

The best time to visit is at the end of the monsoon. Visiting hours should be checked and suggested to visit during day time only.
