About Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati

Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati is the pride and the honour to the city of Pune. People from every part of India and the world come here to pray to Lord Ganesha every year.

History

The temple was founded by Dagadushet Halwai, a local sweet seller who got wealthy by his business in 1893. Dagdusheth Halwai and his wife Lakshmi Bai when they lost their two sons in the plague of 1892. The Ganeshotsav is celebrated faithfully by the Dagdusheth family and their neighbours. When Lokmanya Tilak made the Ganpati festival a public celebration to bring people together for the freedom struggle, Dagdusheth Ganpati became the most respected and popular idol in Pune.
Today, by Lord Ganesha’s blessings, Dagdusheth Halwai Sarvajanik Ganpati Trust has flourished into a veteran organization that is gratified to worship the Lord through its service to humanity. 
The temple is a beautiful construction and boasts a rich history of over 100 years. Jay and Vijay, the two sentinels made of marble catch the eye of all at the outset. The construction is so simple that all the proceedings in the temple along with the beautiful Ganesh idol can be seen even from outside. The Ganesh idol is 2.2 metres tall and 1 metre wide. It is adorned with nearly 40 kilos of gold. Daily pooja, abhisheka and the aarti of Lord Ganesh are worth attending. The decoration of the temple during the Ganesh festival is marvellous. Shrimant Dagdusheth Ganpati Trust looks into the maintenance of the temple. The temple is situated in the centre of the city and a local shopping market is also the nearby temple. Various cultural activities like music concerts, bhajans, and Atharvasheersh recitation are organized by the trust.
The temple is also a social institution working towards the welfare of society as well as cultural development through the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Sarvajanik Ganpati Trust. The Trust provides financial and educational support to small businesses and runs an old age home as well.

Geography

The Dagadusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple is within the city of Pune. It is approximately 4.2 KM from Pune junction railway station.

Weather/Climate

The region has a hot-semi arid climate year-round with an average temperature between 19-33 degrees Celsius. 
April and May are the hottest months in the region when the temperature reaches up to 42 degrees Celsius.
Winters are extreme, and the temperature can go as low as 10 degrees Celsius at night, but the average daytime temperature is around 26 degrees Celsius.
The annual rainfall in the region is around 763 mm.

Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple is the most visited and renowned temple of Pune dedicated to Lord Ganesha. 
    The Mango festival (Amba Mahotsav) is on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. 
    The Mogra festival which is celebrated on the occasion of Vasant Panchami. 
    A music festival is organised between Gudi Padwa to Ram Navmi, which attracts a large number of tourists over here.
