Mahuli Fort (Mumbai)
In Thane district near Shahpur-Asangaon we find a group of three mountains namely Mahuli, Bhandargad and Palasgad. The nature here is so beautiful that you must visit this place to see the beauty of nature. The mountain with many peaks is known as Mahuli. Mahuli is divided into three parts - Palasgad in the north, Mahuli in the center and Bhandargad in the south. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured the fort from the Mughals on 8 January 1658. It was returned in 1661 and again conquered by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. According to the Treaty of Purandar, in 1665, the Marathas lost these forts again. Mughal chief Manohardas Gaud was in charge of this fort. He did a lot of construction on the fort. In February 1970, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj tried to conquer Mahuli, but failed. Thousands of Marathas were killed by the Mughals. This was a big shock to the Marathas. Even after this victory, the chief of the fort, Manohardas Gaud, resigned and a new chief, Alvirdi Beg, was appointed. On 16 June 1670, two months later, Moropant Pingale conquered the forts and Mahuli, Bhandargad and Palasgad became part of the Swarajya.
From Asangaon we reach the east side of the fort. Here we want to climb a ladder. Here we see two pools of water. After walking for 5 minutes, another pool appears. At the top you get a turn. The road on the left leads to Bhandargad. The gatehouses appear on the right. Next we see the remains of the main gate. The road from Kunda leads to Palasgad. On the way there is a bamboo forest. From here you can see Alang, Madan, Kulang and Kalsubai and to the east you can see Harishchandragad, Ajobagad. Tansa and Tungareshwar ranges can be seen up to the southeastern Matheran Range and to the northwest. Further along the stairway, the path on the left leads to the forest. Here we see the Mahadev temple. Next to it are the remains of a palace. In front of it is a large lake. Then we reach the jamun bag. This path takes you to a ring. This ridge lies between Bhandargad and Mahuli. On the right, 500 to 600 feet below, Shikhar Kalyan is seen near the door. We can climb the fort from Kalyan Darwaza. As we climb the cliff, we come to a hidden pond. The next route takes you to Bhandargad.
