ಅಮರಾವತಿ
Literally meaning 'the city of immortals', Amravati has long had its place of honour in both legend and history. Tradition links it to the abode of the goddess Amba (mother), whose shrine is located here. It was the capital of the legendary Vidarbha Janapada and the name of the capital city, Kundinapura, is still preserved in the form of a place called Kaundinyapur. We turn the spotlight on the long heritage of Amravati and its many tourist attractions.

Ambajogai (Beed )
The city of Ambajogai has got a very rich historical, literary and cultural heritage. The land has been made holy by the presence of several religious spots and the touch of many great saints, seers and literary personalities.

Amboli Hill Station ( Sindhudurg)
The beautiful hill-station of Amboli is rightly called the ‘queen’ of Maharashtra; such is its natural splendour. Famous among environmentalists as a precious ecological hotspot, it is cool, calm, serene and enriched with all the treasures that the world of flora and fauna can bestow upon it. Located in the princely state of Sawantwadi, Amboli is located on the ridge of the Western Ghats and is particularly majestic during the monsoon when impromptu waterfalls gush down the hilly terrain.

Thane
Thane city has a rich cultural heritage, mythological background, and several historical references. Even today many archaeological collectives are found in and around the city of Thane. In 1787, a copperplate as old as of 1078 AD was found near the foundations of Thane Fort. The British capturedthe island of Salsette, Thane Fort, Versovafort and the island fort of Karanja in 1774. The place has served as a headquarters of the district administration with a district collector positioned in Thane. In the year of 1863 the Thane Municipal Council was formulated.

Ratnagiri
Famous for its Konkani culture and cuisine, not to forget the much coveted Alphonso mangoes, Ratnagiri is also the birthplace of the great freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak. A prominent port town of Maharashtra, it is a big draw for tourists who come here to enjoy the sand and surf while striking base here because of its many hotels to explore the other interesting tourist destinations of the Konkan region.

Sawantwadi ( Sindhudurg )
A coastal strip of land, bound by the Sahyadri hills on the east and the Arabian Sea on the west, it is Konkan, rich in mineral resources, and offers long stretches of clean, sandy beaches, overflowing lakes, dense forests, simple people, old temples, curvy roads, and bustling seaside towns. And amidst this all is Sawantwadi. This is a small and picturesque town in Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra, also known for its quintessential Konkani food. But there’s something more unique to the place and that’s in the form of the centuries-old traditional art of making wooden toys, Ganjifas (name given to an ancient card game), and more.

Nagpur
Near the present day Vidhan Sabha in Nagpur, there is a statue consisting of four horses and a pillar, marking the former centre of India – the Zero Mile Stone. The “heart” or centre of India though has a history dates back to well before the British era. The city gets its name from the river Nag, which flows through the city, originating at a small village called Lavha.

Nashik
One of the most popular destinations for the pious Hindus, Jains and Buddhists and also known for its association with the epic ‘Ramayana’, Nashik not only has an ethereal and spiritual quality about it but is also a touch point for tourists who wish to explore its interesting forts and a unique centre that offers courses in ‘vipassana’. It’s also one of the most up-and-coming cities in Maharashtra with a vibrant culture and entertainment ethos.

Aga Khan Palace (Pune)
The Aga Khan Palace in Pune occupies a prime position in the history of India’s freedom movement for the fact that Mahatma Gandhi, his wife, secretary and others were incarcerated here from 1942. It now serves as the headquarters of the Gandhi National Memorial Society where the making of ‘khadi’ continues to be a prime activity. This imposing palace where one can feel an intense connection with the past is also known for its beautiful and serene gardens.

Satara
Satara District is situated in Western part of Maharashtra. The district offers opportunities to the tourists to visit the most beautiful natural places and also reveal its importance as a center of cultural significance. Several temples, Forts, Lakes, Dams, Museums as well as Sanctuaries make the district a wonderful place to visit. The district has world famous hot beds of Ecotourism namely Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani as 2 listed destinations of “A” type category. The Kas plateau in Javli Taluka which has been listed on UNESCO Bio-Diversity Heritage Site is an additional advantage to the District Tourism.
