Ingredients and Short Recipes

In rural Maharashtra, there are annual temple fairs celebrated by villagers in which numerous temporary stalls are installed. Many of them sell food items. Most of the visitors visiting the fair carry some sweet home. Khaja is one of the most popular sweets in the Malvan region. 
Khaja is made of Gram flour. Adding oil and water to the gram flour small sticks are made of that. Jaggery, sesame seeds and a pinch of ginger add flavour to the preparation. This sweet mixed with ginger gives a unique taste to Khaja.
Khaja is a popular pastime snack among people.

History

पारंपारिक तयारी असल्याने याचा कागदोपत्री इतिहास माहीत नाही. खाजा मंदिरातील जत्राइतकाच जुना आहे आणि मालवणमधील धार्मिक-सांस्कृतिक परंपरेत सामावून घेतलेला आहे, असा विश्वास आहे.

Cultural Significance

आंगणेवाडी येथील भराडी देवीला वार्षिक जत्रेच्या वेळी ही मिठाई अर्पण केली जाते आणि सर्व भाविक प्रसाद म्हणून खातात. अशा प्रकारे मालवणच्या धार्मिक क्षेत्रात खाजा महत्त्वाची भूमिका बजावतो.
