Thane

Thane is the district's administrative centre. Kalyan-Dombivli, Mira-Bhayander, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Ambarnath, Kulgaon-Badlapur, Shahapur, and Navi Mumbai are among the district's important cities. This is Maharashtra's third-most-industrialized district.

About Thane
Thane is one of the state of Maharashtra's few industrially advanced districts. Thane district is located in the Konkan division to the north. According to the 2011 census, it is the third most populous city in the state. The district covers 4214 square kilometres. It accounts for 1.37 percent of the state's total area.The four pillars of this district are the Sahyadri mountain ranges to the east and the Arabian Sea to the west, the dense forest area of Gujarat state to the north, and the south of Mumbai, which is considered globally famous and India's financial capital.Thane, Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, and Bhiwandi talukas of the district have developed industrial areas that are influenced by Mumbai's modern culture. Thane district benefits from 27 kilometres of Maharashtra's 720 kilometres of coastline coast.
A total of 7642 hectares of land are suitable for groundwater fishing.Groundwater fishing is done in addition to sea fishing. There is a large market for fishery in Mumbai, and there is also a high demand for fish output from Gulf. countries.

Thane district ranks third in the state in terms of industrial development.
Industrialization is responsible for the economic and social growth of more than half of the district. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation has built eight industrial estates in Maharashtra. The district's industry has prospered because to the international market and friendly ports like Mumbai, as well as the ease of communication and government services.There is a concentration of industry, particularly in the district's southern and western regions.
The district's registered industries primarily manufacture substantial quantities of chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
Apart from that, huge amounts of plastic goods, iron goods, and powerloom fabrics are produced by medium and small businesses.Bhiwandi is famed for its textile industry, which is second only to Ichalkaranji in Maharashtra. Ambernath is home to a Central Government-sponsored ammunition and armaments manufacturing plant. Increased manufacturing has resulted in large-scale employment for both skilled and unskilled employees.Although there is little mineral production in the district, sand excavation for construction activities is a big business in Mumra, Thane, and Ghodbunder.

How to Reach
By Road:
Thane is well connected to the rest of the country's major cities via regular buses. Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation provides public transportation (MSRTC). Thane has a single central bus station that is well-connected to all Indian cities. There are also a number of private companies in the city that provide a variety of bus services to various locations.

By Train:
Thane is easily accessible by rail from anywhere in the country. Thane has regular trains to all of India's main cities, and it is regarded the most convenient form of transportation here. It is the busiest station on the Mumbai suburban railway system.

By Air:
Thane does not have its own airport. Thane is 16 kilometres from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport. The airport is well connected to all of India's main cities.

In 1817, the territory now comprising Thane district was taken over by the British from the Peshwa and it became a part of North Konkan district, with its headquarters in Thana. Since then, it has undergone considerable changes in its boundaries. In 1830, the North Konkan district was expanded by adding parts of South Konkan district and in 1833 was renamed Thane District. In 1853, the three sub-divisions of Pen, Roha and Mahad together with Underi and Revadanda agencies of Kolaba were formed into the sub-collectorate of Kolaba, under Thana, and ultimately were separated to become an independent Kolaba district in 1869 (now known as Raigad district).
