Siddhatek (Ashtavinayak) (Ahmednagar)

Ashtavinayak of Siddhatek is called Siddhivinayak. Siddhatek is located in the Ahmednagar district. Siddhatek is one of the most famous Ganesha temples of Ashtavinayak.

History

Siddhatek Temple of Siddheshwar is located on the bank of Bhima river. As per the legend the original temple was believed to be built by Lord Vishnu himself.

The  present structure of the temple is constructed in phases. The sanctum of the temple of Siddhatek was built by Ahilyabai Holkar in the late 18th Century AD . The nagarkhana has kettledrums placed in it which was built by Sardar Haripant Phadke from the Peshwas. The outer sabhamandap hall was built by a landlord from Baroda named Mairal which seemed to have broken in 1939 and was reconstructed by 1970. The temple is constructed in black stone. The idol at Siddhatek is really unique and important.

Geography

Siddhatek Temple is located on the banks of Bhima river and the temple is situated on a small hillock.

The region has a hot-semi arid climate year-round with an average temperature ranging from 19-33 degrees Celsius.

April and May are the hottest months in the region when the temperature reaches up to 42 degrees Celsius.

Winters are extreme, and the temperature can go as low as 10 degrees Celsius at night, but the average daytime temperature is around 26 degrees Celsius.

The annual rainfall in the region is around 763 mm

Siddheshwar of Siddhatek is said to be visited by Devotees when you are on an Ashtavinayak Yatra. One can even do Pradakshina (Circumambulation), around the temple and the hillock.
