Pawna Dam

Pawna dam is constructed on the Pawna river. The backwaters of this dam foms the Pawna lake which is also known for several adventure activities like camping, fishing, and watersports.

History

Pawna dam was established in 1972. Before the construction of this dam, close to 2500 acres of land was under irrigation with the Pawna River water. However, it was highly unorganized and
farmers did not have any assurance. The rainwater was the main source. This had caused several droughts in the region. A detailed survey was conducted in the area and the location near 
Maval was identified for the construction of a dam. Construction work of the Pawna dam began in 1964 but stalled due to the Indo-Pak war in 1965. The dam was completed in 1972.

Geography

Pawna Dam is near the village of Pawnanagar. It is about 45Geographie KM via Paud and 65 KM via Kamshet from Pune.

Pune has a hot-semi arid climate year-round with an average temperature ranging from 19-33 degrees Celsius. April and May are the hottest months in Pune when the temperature reaches up to 42 degrees Celsius.Winters are extreme, and the temperature can go as low as 10degrees Celsius at night, but the average daytime temperature isaround 26 degrees Celsius.The annual rainfall in the Pune region is around 1799 mm. Pune hat ein heißes, halbtrockenes Klima das ganze Jahr über

Pawna Dam is one of the explored spots around the city. It’s an ideal getaway for a tranquil one-day outing. It’s located amidst greenery and hills offering a scenic view. Pawna Lake came into
existence as the Pawna Dam was built in the area, which now along with being a source of freshwater, also serves as a host for tourists who come here in search of peace, for camping and picnics. This site is also explored on regular basis by the Trekkers. Plenty of commercials are shot with this lake in the 
background. An island in the middle of the water body makes it more glorious.

  •  Dudhiware waterfall: Dudhiware is a seasonal waterfall and it is located at Dudhiware village, near Lonavala.The two storied waterfall tumbles from the elevation of about 135 ft approximately, from a rock structure. One can enjoy the beauty of Dudhiware waterfall and also the thrill of water rappelling, zip-lining, valley crossing, etc. Its streams are active during peak monsoon season. The only season for waterfall rappelling is during the monsoon. 
     Bedse Caves: Bedse caves are a group of Buddhist rockcut monuments situated in Maval taluka, Pune District. The history of the caves can be traced back to in the 1st century BCE also known as the Satavahana period. Located at a distance of 8-10 KM from the Bhaja Caves.
    Other caves in the area are Karla Caves and Patan Buddhist Cave. As compared to Karla and Bhaja these are least popular caves.
     Duke’s Nose: This cliff is in the form of a nose resembling the pointed nose of Duke Wellington. It is also known as ‘Nagfani’, as it also looks like the hood ofna snake. The entire region to reach the cliff is blessed with captivating scenic beauty and it is popular for
    thrilling adventurous activities such as hiking, rock climbing and trekking.
