ujjani Dam

Ujani Dam is a panoramic place from the Solapur district. It is constructed on the Bhima river and is hence also known as the Bhima dam. It features a variety of indigenous and migratory birds; and is famous for bird watching, especially flamingo and wildlife birds.

Construction of the Ujani Dam began in 1969 and began in June 1980. It is a combination of Earth Come Concrete Rock Dam. The water reservoir created by Ujani can be used for multiple purposes such as irrigation, drinking water, hydropower generation etc. The total length of the dam is 2,534 m. The reservoir created by the Ujani Dam is one of the largest backwaters in India.


Ujani Dam is located in Solapur district. The dam is built on the Bhima River, southeast of Pune and northwest of Solapur. The height of the dam is 56.4 meters and the length is 2,534 meters. The dam is located 8.0 km above the bridge over the Bhima River on the Pune-Solapur road.

Ujani Dam is one of the largest dams with a large backwater area. It offers a boat trip to enjoy the scenic beauty of the dam. The best time to go boating is in the morning or evening to watch the sunrise / sunset.
Bhigwan Bird Sanctuary is located along the backwaters of the Ujani Dam. The panoramic view of the river, which is home to a wide variety of native birds, including flocks of flamingos, attracts tourists for bird watching and photography.

Akkalkot Swami Samartha Maharaj Temple (127 km) - Saint Dattatreya is believed to be the reincarnation of Lord Shiva. A large number of pilgrims visit this place every day. The present temple is built around the famous banyan tree. Under the same banyan tree Shri. Swami Samartha Maharaj used to meditate and address his followers.
Tulja Bhavani Temple (169 km) - Built somewhere in the 12th century, the Tulja Bhavani Temple is an important Hindu shrine in Maharashtra. Tulja Bhavani is believed to be one of the three and a half 'Shakti Peethas' of Goddess Durga.
