Alandi is near Pune city. It is a Samadhi temple of saint Shri. Dnyaneshwara Maharaj. He lived in the 13th century. The temple at Alandi is on the bank of the Indrayani River.

History
Saint Dnyaneshwar was born in 1275. He is known for his devotional writings in the Marathi language. He belonged to the Natha tradition of Shaivas but was more popular for his commentary on Bhagwadgeeta, known as Dnyaneshwari. He was a disciple of his elder brother Nivruttinath. There are six temples in Alandi Bahiroba, Malappa, Maruti, Pundlik, Ram, and Vishnu.Alandi is a sacred place mainly in the Warkari tradition which is based on Bhakti philosophy with the Vitthal of Pandharpur as the main deity. Every year the palanquin Palakhi is taken to Pandharpur from Alandi. Palkhi tradition was started by Haibatrao Buva Arphalkar. He is the court advisor of the Scindia of Gwalior. Shri Dnyaneshwar Temple at Alandi marks the spot of the Sanjeevan Samadhi of Dnyaneshwar Maharaj
in 1296 CE. There are numerous places associated with him and the miracles he performed at Alandi.

Alandi is on the Pune - Nashik road and at the left bank of the Indrayani river.

The region has a hot-semi arid climate year-round with an average temperature ranging from 19-33
degrees Celsius. April and May are the hottest months in Pune when the temperature reaches up to 42 degrees Celsius.Winters are extreme, and the temperature can go as low as 10 degrees Celsius at night, but the average daytime temperature is around 26 degrees Celsius.The annual rainfall in the Pune region is around 763 mm.

The biggest festival in Alandi is Kartika Vaidya Ekadashi. Devotees from in and around Maharashtra visit the festival during this time of the year.
