History :
Alibaug is in Raigad district in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. The place is famous for its clean and sandy beaches. Alibaug has a Magnetic observatory that was set up in 1904, which is now run by the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism.
Geography :
Alibaug falls in the Konkan region of Maharashtra in between the Sahyadri mountains and the Arabian sea. It is surrounded by the Arabian sea on three sides. It is approx. 97 KM from Mumbai and 167 KM away from Pune.
Weather/Climate :
The prominent weather in the region is rainfall, the Konkan belt experiences High Rainfall (ranges around 2500 mm to 4500 mm), and the climate remains Humid and warm. The temperature reaches up to 30 degrees Celsius during this season.
Summers are hot and humid, and the temperature touches 40 degrees Celsius.
Winters have a comparatively milder climate (around 28 degrees Celsius), and the weather remains Cool and Dry.
Things to do :
Alibaug is famous for water sport activities such as parasailing, banana boat rides, jet-skiing, surfing, etc.
The place is famous for camping and fishing as well. The tourists also enjoy horse and horse cart rides on the beach. Apart from these typical beach tourism, Alibag is known for heritage sites at Colaba fort, Kankeshwar temple, Chaul and Revdanda fort.

Murud Janjira Fort: The fort is located off the coast of Murud into the sea.
Phansad bird sanctuary: Located 42 KM away from Alibaug via Revdanda-Murud road.
Revdanda beach and fort: Situated 17 KM south of Alibaug, this place is famous for its Portuguese fort and beach.
Korlai Fort: Situated 23 KM south of Alibaug beach. It was one of the huge forts constructed by the Portuguese which could accommodate 7000 horses.
Kolaba fort: Situated in the Arabian sea surrounded by water from all sides, this 300 plus-year-old fort is one of the popular tourist attractions.
Varsoli Beach: Lesser visited beach by the tourists, famous as Naval base for the Indian Army.
How to travel to tourist place by Rail, Air, Road (train, flight, bus) with distance and required time :
Alibaug is accessible by road, rail as well as waterways. It is connected to NH 66, Mumbai Goa Highway. State transport, buses and cabs are available from Mumbai to Alibaug.
The ferry is also available from Gateway of India to Mandwa. From Mandwa local cars are available for Alibaug.
Nearest Airport: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport Mumbai 103 KM.
Nearest Railway Station: Pen 33 KM.

Visiting Rule and Time, Best month to visit
The place is accessible throughout the year but the best time
to visit is, from October to March. The sea is very rough during monsoon and gets very risky with its unpredictable behaviour.
Tourists are advised to check the timings of high as well as low tides before entering the sea. High tides during the monsoon season could be dangerous hence these occasions shall be avoided.
