Nagpur is located at the exact centre of the India. Nagpur is the Tiger capital of India as many reserves are located in and around the city. It is popularly known as ‘Orange city of India’. A perfect destination for nature lovers and it also offers an unforgettable travel experience.

History
The city got its name from the River Nag or Nag people and has been known since prehistoric times. The city was founded by the Prince of Gond’sBhaktBuland but later became part of the Maratha Empire under the Bhonsles. The British East India Company took over Nagpur in the 19th century and declared it as the capital of the Central provinces of Berar. At present Nagpur is the sub-capital or winter capital of Maharashtra.
Geography
Nagpur city is situated along the Nag River and the surrounding region is an undulating plateau rising Northeast to the Satpura ranges from 271 to 653m encirclingnumerous protected natural areas. The ‘Zero milestone ‘marker indicates the geographical centre of India. The Region is drained by the Kanhan and Pench rivers in the centre, Wardha in the west and the Wainganga in the east. The soil in the west and the north are black (cotton) and that in the east alluvial in nature.
Weather/Climate
The climate of the place is hot and dry, It is hot during (May/June) summer with the peak temperature of 48degree celsius. The onset Monsoon is from July. The average annual rainfall is 1143 mm with more rain in the east than in west.
Things to do
There are quite a few Nagpur tourist attractions in the city of Maharashtra. These places are popular among the tourists who come to visit this city of India. Some of the major places of interest in the city are the BalajiMandir, the Ambazari Lake, the Seminary Hill and the MaharajBaug and Zoo. The Balaji Mandir is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Nagpur. The deity worshipped in this temple is Lord Balaji. It is on the Seminary Hills. Ambazari Lake is one of the main tourist attractions in Nagpur. The children, in particular, find this place very amusing, as it offers a variety of popular games. The lake is the biggest and most beautiful of all the lakes that are in the city.
Nearest tourist places
1.Ramtek: Ramtek is approximately 50 KM away from the city of Nagpur. A must visit place for the history enthusiasts. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Rama from whom the name was given.
2. DeekshaBhoomi: DeekshaBhoomi is another place of cultural and religious importance. At this very place, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Embraced Buddhism. Diksha Bhumi is spread over the area of 4 acres. It hosts a giant stupa that attracts tourists from all over the world.
3. Zero-mile marker: Zero Mile Stone is a monument built by the British during the” Great Trigonometrical Survey” of India in 1907. It serves as a starting point to measure the distance between places in Indian subcontinent.
4.Tadoba Wildlife Sanctuary: For nature lovers. Tadoba National Park is a must visit place. Located at a distance of 150 KM away from the city of Nagpur, it is home to the Bengal tigers and other diverse species of animals, plants and birds. The prime attraction of this park is the jungle safari.
5. Chikhaldara: Chikhaldara is in Hill station. Located in Amravati District of Maharashtra. It is 231 KM away from the city of Nagpur. A lot of people visit this highland during the summer to have some releif from the high temperature of Nagpur.
Special food speciality and hotel
When it comes to food, travellers visiting Nagpur cannot possibly miss the city's famous oranges and the nature that surrounds the city. It is pertinent to try wonderful Varhadi cuisine which is known for its richness and spicy flavours. Nagpur is famous for spicy food and Patodi and Kadhi that gives you a lot of spices. The cuisine of the Vidarbha region is called Saoji cuisine or Varhadi cuisine (the culture of the Savji community). The other special dishes are Pohe, Pitlabhakri, Sabudanakhichdi, stuffed eggplant sandage, koshimbir, spicy chicken, zunkabhakar, etc. A must–try the dessert ‘Orange Barfi’ made famous by ‘Haldirams’.

Visiting Rule and Time, Best month to visit
Winters are from October up until February, which is conducive for sightseeing.
Summers from March to June are not advised due to high temperatures. Rains from July and September make it hard to do any sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Nagpur City
Nagpur was a major town and stronghold under the Gond royal house of Devagadh (Dist. Chhindwada, M.P.) in the mediaeval era. In the 17th century CE, the Mughals defeated the Gond rulers and took over the region. In the 18th century the Bhonsale rule was established by Raghuji Bhonsale. He belonged to a sub–family of the house of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Bhonsales contributed a lot to the enrichment of Nagpur.
Nagpur City
Near the present day Vidhan Sabha in Nagpur, there is a statue consisting of four horses and a pillar, marking the former centre of India – the Zero Mile Stone. The “heart” or centre of India though has a history dates back to well before the British era. The city gets its name from the river Nag, which flows through the city, originating at a small village called Lavha.
How to get there

By Road
The NH 6 running north-south from Varanasi to Kanyakumari and NH 7 going east-west from Surat to Kolkata both pass through Nagpur. It’s central location means most cities within overnight distance are connected by bus services.

By Rail
Nagpur Junction is equally well-connected with most major long-distance trains passing through it.

By Air
The Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport is one of the busiest airports in India, being well-connected to most Indian cities. It has recently begun international services to the Gulf countries.
