Village of Hemalkasa is known for its Lok Biradari Project. The village was adopted by Dr Prakash Baba Amte and his wife Dr Mandakini Amte in 1973.

Hemalkasa is well known for its thick forests and natural beauty and fish farming located on the
borders of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. It is a forest area primarily occupied by tribes and has
remote access. When the project of Lok BIradari was introduced at this place by the Amte family in 11973, the region had no facilities.
In the village of Hemalkasa Baba Amte with his son, Dr Prakash Amte and Dr Mandakini Amte, Baba
Amte’s daughter in law, founded the Lok Biradari Prakalp for holistic development and empowerment
of the Madia Gond community and other inhabitants around Bhamragad to make them self-sufficient and responsible citizens, aware of their rights and capable of standing for self.
The main language of the community living here is Madia. Projects run at Hemalkasa - Lok Biradari

Today Lok Biradari Prakalp is not only known for the upliftment of the Madia Gond tribe but also the

Geography
The village of Hemalkasa is on the confluence of three rivers on the borders of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh states. It is part of the Central Indian Forest.

The region is mostly dry throughout the year, and Summers are extreme. The temperatures in summersare around 30-40 degrees Celsius.
Winters here came to be as low as 10 degrees Celsius.
